Artsmark Silver Award

Tilbury Pioneer Academy are incredibly proud to receive a prestigious Artsmark Silver Award [2023]. The Artsmark Award is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It has been supporting schools to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education for 20 years, putting creativity and wellbeing at the heart of the curriculum. Artsmark ensures every young person can be creative and access a diverse, high-quality cultural education. In order to achieve their Artsmark Award, Tilbury Pioneer Academy had to develop their arts and culture provision to embed a broad and ambitious curriculum. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.

In their awarding statement, the Arts Council said:

After the difficulties of Covid you have redesigned your curriculum offer to make it more dynamic and responsive to learner needs. This has included more overt attention given to arts and creativity as an outlet. Your after-school arts offer in the form of clubs and societies is well attended and you have done really well to get such high levels of engagement from groups such as SEND and socio-economically disadvantaged learners. Your improvements in arts teaching day to day are partly accounted for by your approach to CPD. You have regularly modelled music and art lessons by confident specialist teachers. Team teaching was introduced for music and art across all year groups which positively impacted staff confidence and skills development. Co-teaching has been a good way of scaffolding professional development and has positively impacted all teachers from ECTs to leaders.'
